    114% Salary: Peter Obi faults hike for presidency and public office holders

    The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last presidential election, Peter Obi, has condemned the proposed upward review of salaries for political office holders. The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)is proposing a 114% review of salaries for political holders. According to the commission, the last time the salaries of public office holders was reviewed was in 2008.

    In a series of tweets posted on his handle today June 22, Obi expressed his disapproval stating categorically that the salary increment is at this moment a deed in bad taste, considering the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians. He opined that leaders should be focused on reducing the cost of governance and alleviating the suffering of the citizens.
