The South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe, has been summoned by Nigeria’s minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, over xenophobic attacks in his country.
The duo will be holding a meeting on Tuesday by 11am. This was confirmed via a Whatsapp statement by a senior official in the ministry, Kimiebi Ebenfa.
It reads: “I am directed to inform you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs has summoned the High Commissioner of South Africa for a meeting this morning by 11.
The meeting was confirmed a few minutes ago.
”
This development is coming barely 24 hours after Onyeama took to social media to declare that the Federal Government will take action over the issue.
“Received sickening and depressing news of continued burning and looting of Nigerian shops and premises in #SouthAfrica by mindless criminals with ineffective police protection. Enough is enough. We will take definitive measures.”
