In a candid revelation, renowned actress Mercy Aigbe disclosed her ordeal with sexual harassment, revealing how it almost led her to quit the acting industry. During an interview on ‘Your Views,’ a talk show on TVC, she recounted a distressing incident that nearly shattered her dreams.
“I once met a producer in Surulere,” Mercy recounted, detailing her aspirations to pursue acting. She shared her experience of undergoing multiple audition stages for a role in an upcoming film. However, upon being offered a minor role different from what she auditioned for, the producer’s behavior took a disconcerting turn.
“He had been making passes at me before then,” Mercy disclosed. It was during this final encounter that he made advances and attempted to touch her inappropriately. Standing her ground, Mercy vehemently protested, asserting that she had rightfully earned the role through her talent and dedication.
“That was a huge insult to my person,” she expressed, deeply hurt by the experience. This traumatic incident shook her faith in the industry, causing her to reconsider her career choice. Feeling disheartened and disillusioned, she tore the script and left, reflecting on the sacrifices she had made as a single mother to pursue a career in Nollywood.
