An arrest has been made in connection to the hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of female American rapper, Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj.
Police arrested 70-year-old Charles Polevich after he turned himself in. Authorities believe Polevich struck Maraj with his 1992 white Volvo Series 740 Stationwagon.
According to the complaint, Polevich “then exited his vehicle stood over the victim asked him if ‘he was ok,’ walked and returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.” Polevich is also accused of hiding his car in the detached garage at his residence.
Charles Polevich has been charged with leaving the scene of an incident involving the death of a person and tampering with or suppressing physical evidence, both considered felony crimes.
He was forced to surrender his passport and is forbidden from leaving New York.
His bail has been set at $250,000.
According to reports, the father of superstar Nicki Minaj–Robert Maraj has died at the age of 64 after being struck in a hit-and-run incident.
Nassau County police noted that Robert Maraj was walking on the road between Raff Avenue and Roslyn Road around 6 PM Friday evening.
Tragically, a vehicle that was heading northbound reportedly struck the man, and police noted that the car fled the scene right after.
Robert Maraj was taken to a hospital where he was in critical condition due to his injuries. However, Maraj passed away over the weekend due to his injuries. As of now, witnesses have not been able to identify the car or the suspect who drove the vehicle.
The unfortunate passing of Nicki’s father was confirmed by Minaj’s team.
