Nigerian film industry is witnessing a historic moment as Funke Akindele, a renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker, smashes records by raking in one billion naira at the box office with her movie,
‘A Tribe Called Judah’.
The achievement has sparked widespread celebration across social media, with fans and industry insiders lauding Funke Akindele for her unprecedented success. Although the actress herself hasn’t made an official statement yet, Wikipedia’s box office lineup confirms the staggering figure of N1,060,711,491.
Currently dominating the Wikipedia Nollywood grossing table, Akindele’s films:
‘A Tribe Called Judah’, ‘Battle On Buka Street’, and ‘Omo Ghetto The Saga’ – are leading as the highest-grossing Nollywood movies of all time. In a competitive lineup, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, alongside Toyin Abraham’s ‘Malaika’ and Mercy Aigbe’s ‘Ada Omo Daddy’, top the charts for the highest-grossing screening movies.
This is not the first time Akindele has set records in the Nigerian film industry. In 2021, she surpassed her own previous highest-grossing film record with ‘Battle on Buka Street’, which earned 640 million naira, outperforming her 2020 release ‘Omo Ghetto The Saga’ by a small margin.
Film One, in a recent Instagram post, celebrated Akindele’s achievement, pointing out that her only competition seems to be with her own past successes. This landmark achievement by Funke Akindele not only sets a new high for her career but also elevates the standards in the Nigerian film industry.
