Bobrisky: Institutional issues will be addressed, no one will be shielded – Tunji-Ojo vows

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has addressed the saga involving popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

The incident, which centers around allegations of preferential treatment during Bobrisky’s jail time, has sparked discussion about systemic issues within Nigeria’s institutions.

Social critic, Very Dark Man, had released a purported audio tape of Bobrisky claiming he had paid certain officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to secure special privileges while in custody. The audio clip, which circulated widely, prompted public outcry and raised questions about corruption and accountability within the correctional system.

Speaking on Channels TV on Tuesday, November 12, Tunji-Ojo highlighted the broader implications of the incident, calling it a “reflection of institutional issues.” He explained the disciplinary procedures involved in addressing such allegations, stating.

There are disciplinary procedures. You have to go through the board. You don’t just take action. Of course, somebody as high as an ACG who was found culpable of giving those verbal instructions in this regard has been suspended. This is because we said we are not going to shield anybody.”

The minister confirmed that a report has been submitted to the appropriate board, and a copy has been shared with the NCoS to initiate disciplinary actions.

“The report is with the board; we have sent a copy to the service themselves because disciplinary actions must start,” he said.
