Early Life and Education.
She was born on October 27, 1986, in Lagos, Nigeria, to Mr. Emmanuel Eke and a stay-at-home wife. She has four siblings and is a twin. She spent her early life in London, where she completed her secondary education at the Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, in 2001.
She obtained her first degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Calabar in 2009. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health for Developing Countries from London School Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, a master’s degree in public health in Developing Countries from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and Doctor of Public Health from Texila American University.
Career.
Betta Edu began her political career in 2015 when she became the youngest person to be appointed Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Cross River State Benedict Ayade on Community and Primary Healthcare. She was later appointed as the Commissioner for Health in Cross River State in December 2019, a position she held until March 2022. She was also the National Chairman of the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum. In March 2022, she became the youngest national woman leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She was appointed as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in August 2023.
