Chelsea head coach Frank contract terminated

Chelsea have sacked Frank Lampard as head coach after just 18 months into his three-year contract.

Lampard’s contract is said to have been terminated on Monday morning with the club set to make an official announcement later today.

The club legend who replaced Maurizio Sarri and led the Blues back into the UEFA Champions League despite suffering a transfer ban was held in high regard before the start of the 2020/21 season.

But after splashing over £200m on off-season transfers, their struggles in the Premier League has led to the Blues hierarchy opting to move into a new direction.

“This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly,” the club statement read.

“We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club. However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.

“There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the Club time to improve performances and results this season.”

It’s been reported that Thomas Tuchel will succeed the former England midfielder in the hotseat after a host of Europe’s elite managers were linked with the role.
