Court restrains NLC, TUC from embarking on strike over petrol subsidy

The Federal government has secured an interim order stopping members of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC from embarking on a strike on Wednesday June 7 over fuel subsidy removal.

Last week the Labour organization announced it was going on strike over the sudden removal of petrol subsidy. The Labour union argues that the Federal government ought to have put in place palliatives that will help the Nigerian masses cushion the economic effect of the subsidy removal.

The Federal government approached the Federal High court challenging the decision of the union to go on strike.

In a ruling delivered today, Justice O.Y Anuwe gave an interim injunction restraining the NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC from going on strike until the determination of the motion on notice. The judge then adjourned the matter for further hearing till 19 June.
