The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a Group Life Assurance Scheme covering President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, ministers, and other key government officials.

Didi Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, announced the development on Monday following the sixth FEC meeting of the year. She said the scheme is designed to ensure that in the event of death, the next-of-kin of any covered official receives benefits to help cushion the impact of the loss.

The policy covers all federal civil servants, paramilitary personnel, and staff of ministries and treasury-funded agencies. Also included are the Nigerian Immigration Service, Civil Defence Corps, Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, FRSC, NDLEA, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Walson-Jack stated that 17 insurance underwriters have been appointed for the scheme, which will run for the 2025/2026 policy year. Coverage begins once premiums are paid, in line with the “no premium, no cover” principle, and will last for 12 months.
