    FML condemns police brutality on citizens

    The convener and founder, First Massive Literate (FML), James Useghan has condemned the harassment and killings of innocent citizens by the Nigeria Police, on the ongoing protests of the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad otherwise known as SARS.

    Useghan noted the videos on social media where the police were seen beating, arresting and killing protesters should be properly investigated and erring officers brought to book as this will serve as a deterrent to others not to violate citizens’ right and freedom of assembly.

    He said violence in many parts of the country erupted after the police used tear gas and water pumps to disperse citizens on a peaceful protest.

    He recalled on Sunday that the Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police, Mohammed Adamu, announced the disbandment of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police, the operatives should be redeployed to other Police formations and command.

    The founder further although SARS was created by the Nigeria Police Force to combat crime and other social vices but they have deviated to interfere in unnecessary activities like going through the laptops of phones of youths.

    He urged the police to refrain from the use of excessive force on citizens to avert breakdown of law and order in the country as the protests gathers momentum in the country.
