In a recent episode of her podcast, TokeMoments, Nigerian media icon Toke Makinwa shared her successful experience at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai.
Toke revealed that she achieved all her objectives at the event, despite facing a wave of backlash on social media.
Speaking with actress Ini Edo, who appeared as a guest on the show, Toke was asked about her participation in the summit and whether she engaged in panel discussions. Toke confirmed her active involvement, saying,
“Yes. I accomplished everything I set out to do with it [COP28]. I was just shocked [by the uproar].”
Toke described waking up to a social media backlash, which felt more serious when high-profile individuals started contacting her. She recounted an amusing incident at a Dubai hotel where notable guests, aware of the online criticism, humorously nicknamed her ‘item seven.’ Despite the initial backlash, Toke and the guests shared a laugh over the situation, turning the experience into a lighthearted moment.
