Isaac Aloma, famously known as ZicSaloma in the skit-making sphere, unveiled his surprising transition from a lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic to an acclaimed skit creator. His decision to pivot from academia to entertainment was primarily motivated by the meager salary he earned as a lecturer.
In an engaging podcast interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, Aloma candidly discussed his relentless pursuit of success. He highlighted his journey, revealing that he commenced his master’s program while fulfilling his National Youth Service Corps obligations and later secured a position as a lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic.
Despite his teaching role, Aloma remained dedicated to his passion for music, participating in singing competitions and even gracing the stage of The Voice Nigeria. However, his shift towards skit-making emerged unexpectedly, initially as a casual endeavor.
“I started making skits unplanned. It wasn’t something I took seriously but it was gaining traction. At first, I was posting my skits on Facebook, and my Facebook friends seemed to like it. They encouraged me to do more. I just kept doing it. I did it for like three years. My fan base wasn’t growing but the people who liked it liked it,” Aloma recounted.
His breakthrough came during the lockdown period when he joined TikTok, witnessing a surge in the organic reach of his content.
“At a point, I told my boss that I was quitting my lecturing job and she was like, ‘Are you sure you know what you’re doing?’ I’m done with lecturing. How much is the lecturer’s salary? [laughs],” he humorously shared about his decision to depart from academia.
Aloma admitted that when he left his lecturing role, his success in the entertainment realm was still in its infancy. Despite uncertainties, his determination and creative pursuits have now propelled him into the limelight as a prominent figure in the skit-making industry.
