In a recent revelation that has sent ripples through the entertainment industry, Phyna, the victor of the Big Brother Naija reality show, disclosed the heavy toll her social media controversies have taken on her career.
Since rocketing to fame in 2022, Phyna’s journey has been anything but smooth.
During an intimate chat on Doyin’s Corner, Phyna opened up about the harsh reality of how social media backlash has affected her professionally. She recounted a particularly disheartening experience where a major brand bluntly labeled her an ‘abuser’, refusing to collaborate with her. This accusation stemmed from allegations circulating in the blogosphere about her supposed physical altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Groovy, over a deal gone wrong.
“Just two weeks ago, my manager and I sat down to figure out the extent of what I’ve lost since last year. We counted up to 17 deals that slipped through my fingers,” Phyna shared. “One big brand explicitly told me they couldn’t associate with me because they believed I was an abuser. All this came down on me during the time bloggers were busy painting me as someone who slapped another person.”
This confession from Phyna highlights the profound impact that social media and public perception can have on the careers of public figures, especially in the volatile world of entertainment.
