Kaduna SDP Disowns El-Rufai, Rejects State Exco Dissolution

The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has distanced itself from former Governor Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai, stating that there are no proper records confirming his membership.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Friday, the Assistant National Secretary, North-West of SDP, Alhaji Idris Inuwa, also rejected the purported dissolution of the party’s State Working Committee.

Inuwa alleged that certain individuals were working behind the scenes to hijack the party. He emphasized that the current Kaduna State Executive Committee was a product of a duly conducted state congress, reflecting the will of party members and adhering to constitutional provisions.

According to him, the committee holds a four-year mandate that remains valid, binding, and legally recognized throughout its tenure. Any attempt to dissolve it unilaterally, he argued, would violate the party’s constitution and undermine internal democracy.

He further stated that the SDP constitution outlines a clear process for dissolving a State Exco, which includes initiating an investigation, setting up a committee, and ensuring a fair hearing. None of these steps were followed, and instead, an illegal and unilateral letter of dissolution was issued. He also described the creation of a caretaker committee under a single individual as lacking legal basis, rendering it “null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.”

While acknowledging the increasing interest in the party, Inuwa stressed that membership admission must follow due process. He reaffirmed that the State Executive Committee remains open to all prospective members who comply with the party’s established guidelines.
