Second runner up of one of Nigerians most popular television reality show, MTN project Fame season 5, Adetoun Adekoya has recounted some of her bitter-sweet challenges she face coming out of the show back in 2014.

According to the songstress in a recent interview that was monitored by Adewale Alaba of Pearlsnews during a Saturday show on R292.

9fm Ibadan with Sakadeli, she revealed that although, Project Fame gave her a platform, but it hasn’t been easy utilizing it since after the show.

“After project fame, it was a life I could never have imagine, you know coming out of the normal Adetoun that sings backups for people and going into Project Fame and coming out and you have a platform handed over to you on a plater of gold, but you know coming into the industry was never easy because you can’t compare we that were just trained for 3months to just go out there and make money, unlike someone that have been hustling in the industry for six years and he’s still not there, you know so. It was quite hard for someone like me to find my foot then because it was a whole lot going to a reality show.

You became popular because of a particular track, and they wanted you to do that track, and I am not the original owner of that track so it was quite hard for me to balanced the two, like I found it very hard then to merged who I was cause then, I used to do jazz but now am doing wack, fuji.So I stepped back a little”

Adetoun also revealed that it was hard for her to find her voice:

“It took me some time to find my voice, cause I don’t want to ever sound like anybody, I want to sound like me. Every wondered why the likes of Asa are still very relevant in the industry, that’s because they have a voice and a sound to their name. That’s what I have been trying to do and God have been helping and the good people of Ibadan has been leading so well”

Speaking about the male’s dominant in the industry, Burna Boy and all who have put Nigeria on the world map already, but for me is to accept the female artists because the acceptance is still not a hundred percent, we still struggle, I only hope in five years. All thanks to Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Waje, Omawunmi, and Asa.

But there are alot of females artists out there who still need to be heard, you know we can’t be like the guys that they have to be rugged, accept us the way we are and give us more opportunities to be out there, don’t just sideline us because we are females.

So in the next five years I hope the female also will be up there like the male, she added.
