‘Marriage will never make me quit Nollywwod’- Genny Uzoma

Fast rising Nollywood actress, Genny Uzoma has revealed that marriage will never stop her from practicing what she loves doing; acting.

She also talked about how she got on the set of Husbands of Lagos, which has now made her more popular than before.

“.Well, Husbands of Lagos is a hit TV series from the Iroko/Rok TV platforms. It has a good storyline and its well executed and shot by a team of professionals. I was referred to Mrs Mary Njoku, and I auditioned for the role and got it eventually and I’m mighty grateful for that. I have since become one of the major cast of the series and without doubt, it has shot me further into limelight.”

Speaking on some of her jobs, she said, “I’ve been in a lot of movies and yes I’m also on the lookout for more roles that would push my face out there, you know, good roles in critically acclaimed movies and I believe they will come .”

Narrating her experience, Genny also revealed her struggles in getting into Nollywood saying she borrowed funds to register as a certified actress in Enugu.

Speaking on her humble beginning, Genny explained that she had to borrow funds from friends to pay for her membership at the Enugu chapter of Actors Guild of Nigeria because her parents didn’t approve of her decision to act.

“I joined the actors guild of Nigeria the Enugu chapter at the age of 18 whilst in the university. I had also been really good with the arts, literature and English and participated in plays while in secondary school. I saw acting as beautiful and fascinating and I wanted to join up, I remember I had to borrow money to register as I couldn’t tell my parents about it then and the guild wouldn’t let me audition without being a member. I was mighty excited about it, I couldn’t believe I was sharing the screen with my idols and role models, people I looked up to even if it was little roles I got then, we used to call it executive wakapass.”

Continuing, she said: “My parents didn’t approve of my acting when I started, they didn’t want me to spiral out of control but they’ve come around now, and mum keeps asking me of the movies I’ve done that she can watch now.”

Genny, one of the popular faces on the Iroko TV-produced series, Husbands of Lagos, has acted alongside to acts that include Bobby Obodo, Bolanle Ninalowo, Kenneth Okolie and Desmond Elliot amongst others.
On her dedication to the acting world, Genny said she doubts if any obstacle will make her quit acting or entertaining.

“I don’t think anything else will make me quit entertaining God willing, certainly not marriage… I pray God gives an understanding and accommodating person in the first place else I can’t be with him,” she quipped.
