Cross River State’s Governor, Bassey Otu, has pledged to reimburse singer Mayorkun for the loss of his precious jewellery during his visit to Calabar for the 2023 Calabar Carnival.
Mayorkun, one of the festival’s performers, expressed his frustration on social media after reportedly losing valuable jewellery worth millions of naira. He even declared his decision not to perform in Calabar again.
Singer Iyanya later announced the recovery of one of Mayorkun’s stolen diamond chains, offering a glimmer of hope. In a subsequent update on his official platform, Mayorkun disclosed a meeting with Governor Otu, who assured him of compensation for his lost valuables in Calabar.
“Just met with the Governor of Cross River State, H.E Prince Bassey Otu,” Mayorkun shared.
“He assured me that Calabar people remain very hospitable and he has also stressed that I will be compensated for my valuables lost. Thank you sir. Still searching for my pendant. It’s so special to me for many reasons.”
The assurance from the Governor brings a ray of hope to the singer, despite the ongoing search for his cherished pendant.
