Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy, emphasizing that meaningful change takes time.
Fayose, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the remarks on Monday night after a private visit to Tinubu at his Lagos residence.
“My visit was personal—to encourage him to keep pushing forward with his policies for the benefit of Nigerians,” Fayose told journalists. “Transformation doesn’t happen overnight; there’s no instant solution to the nation’s challenges.”
He acknowledged the difficulties of governance but commended the president for making tough decisions to stabilize the economy.
“Despite the challenges, the president has taken commendable steps, and we should recognize that,” Fayose said.
While he had been critical of the previous administration, Fayose noted a difference under Tinubu’s leadership.
“I was once a vocal critic, but the current situation is distinct. That’s why I’m urging the president to stay the course and do more for Nigerians,” he explained.
Fayose also recalled his long-standing belief in Tinubu’s leadership, even during his tenure as a PDP governor.
“Even while in office, I openly supported his leadership qualities before he became president,” he said. “As leaders, our role now is to rally behind him, strengthen his resolve, and help the public understand how tough it is to revive a struggling economy.”
