Nike’s rare ‘Moon Shoe’ is sold for a record N157,500,00

Nike’s rarest sneaker ‘moon shoe’ sold for a record-breaking $437,500 (£351,772, N157,500,00), at New York auction house Sotheby’s confirmed.

The 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat Moon Shoe designed by the brand’s co-founder Bill Bowerman, was expected to fetch $160,000 and it was reportedly the last shoes to sell in an auction of 100 pairs of trainers – from Adidas to Air Jordans – in New York.

Canadian collector, Miles Nadal who also forked out $850,000 for the other 99 pairs in the auction, plans to display the sneakers at his private museum in Toronto, the Dare to Dream Automobile Museum.

Only 12 pairs of the moon shoe were manufactured and the set sold on Tuesday, was “one of only a handful of pairs known to exist”. This particular pair had been worn by an athlete back in the day.
