OPINION: Davido ‘Timeless’ album lacks real value – Pastor

Lead Pastor at The Refinery Church International, Harrison Ayintete has expressed dissatisfaction on Davido’s new album ‘Timeless’. The album has no story.

According to the preacher and rapper, he was expecting an album filled with story, context and soul coming from a father who just came out of mourning following the sudden dismissal of his son.

He also added that the reason Davido’s new album is getting all the love and support is because of the popularity he has and nothing more. That the ‘Timeless’ would have been tagged wack if it’s coming from an up-and-coming artist.

“This timeless album was not even timely.

I mean, I felt I was going to hear a timeless album, it was too shallow to be timely”.

    His post read:

This is why we can’t underestimate popularity.

In reality, if an upcoming artist had sang the new timeless album, people will say he is wack!

This is also the reason everyone who believes in their craft must keep at it because in reality people dont care for real value if it is not popular!

Have you seen the video where Tim Godfrey suggested Sunmisola’s style didn’t seem to fit enough, look who’s doing great today? Sunmisola is doing great. Thankfully, she didn’t give up so we had the opportunity to hear her music.

Even with doctrine and the things of the Spirit.

People don’t know what’s deep, sound or woke, if it is popular and mainstream, they will hype it like it is the biggest thing ever!

I mean, I hear some preachers and I wonder why anyone will even put the mic to his mouth and say the things they say, but they are big, their audience do ‘hmm,’ ‘deep’, ‘wow’, ‘I have never seen it like that before’, popularity is really a phenomenon we must study amongst mankind.

This timeless album was not even timely.

I mean, I felt I was going to hear a timeless album, it was too shallow to be timely.

Coming from an A list artiste who just suffered loss, I expected all his loss, his hurt, his pain, his hope, his resilience to be plastered all over the album, I expected each track to be pure soul, with real value.

I expected some music that will inspire so much church folks will argue if it should be played in church or not.

No story, no context, no soul.

It remains same girls, butts, this and that but it won’t matter, he is a super star and I thank God for his life.

My point is simple, whatever you do, refuse to be in obscurity, popularity is so powerful, believe me, most people don’t know what it is good music, good preaching, good anything if it is popular!

This post is not a recommendation for secular songs, rather it tells you the kind of secular musical perspective you should crave, as a rap artiste, I listen to new joints, new music, I study trends etc., I apologize if it affects your sensitivity but you have to study public opinion of music through the trends to know why people listen to what. You can’t influence anything in isolation.
