Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and wife, Beatrice, has appeared in the West Minister Magistrates Court, the United Kingdom on Thursday, July 7, for the continuation of his trial.
Recall that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice were arrested by the British police on June 23 on allegations of human trafficking and organ harvesting that v#olates the country’s Modern Slavery Act.
The police authorities had accused the lawmaker of conspiring to bring a child to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting, saying the victim is a 15-year-old boy.
However, Arise News reports that the Westminster Magistrate Court judge has adjourned the case till August 4. Ike Ekweremadu and his wife are to remain in custody till the next hearing.
Also, the victim, David Nwamini, confessed that he wasn’t 15yrs old but 21.
It is also reported that there was a huge show of Nigerian support at the Westminster Magistrates Court with protesters holding placards.
Some of the top dignitaries that attended the court hearing are; former senate minority leader – Eyinnanya Abaribe, former Senate President – David Mark, former Minister of State for Education – Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs – Adamu Bulkachuwa.
