Popular pastor who claimed to have cured COVID-19 patient has passed away

Frankline Ndifor, a Cameroonian pastor and politician died from complications related to the coronavirus. The 39- year old pastor, who was known to have allegedly cured COVID-19 through his faith, died last Saturday, Voice of America reports. Dr. Gaelle Nnanga went to his home after one of Ndifor’s followers called him to come to the house.

That is when the doctor found the pastor lying in “agony.” Ndifor passed away less than 10 minutes after Nnanga’s arrival.

“This is a pastor that has been laying hands [on the sick] and claiming that he cures COVID-19,” Rigobert Che, one of Ndifor’s followers says.

“If you, the person that claims that you are curing COVID-19, you are dead, what about the fellow people that were affected by the COVID-19? Now that he is dead, I do not know how the people that he was laying hands on will be healed.”

To get into Ndifor’s home, police had to force their way inside because of his followers-due to the fact that followers barricaded the entrance as they prayed for him. They believed he would be resurrected just the way Jesus resurrected the dead in the bible. He was looked as a prophet in his community.

The Cameroon Tribune reports that tear gas was used to disperse the crowd of followers, which resulted in authorities gathering the body for a quick burial. But Ndifor’s family plans to regain the body in their possession, possibly for a proper burial.

People in Cameroon are now concerned about those who won’t be able to be treated for the virus since Ndifor has passed. He was looked up to as a healer and being able to cure people of the virus by praying for them.

According to John Hopkins Unversity, Cameroon has 4,400 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Saturday leading to 159 deaths.
