Pres. Donald Trump reveals he’s exploring ways to serve a third term

U.S President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of serving a third term, stating in an interview that he is “not joking” about the idea.

Speaking to NBC News in a phone interview from Mar-a-Lago, Trump claimed there are “methods” to extend his presidency beyond the constitutional two-term limit, which would prevent him from seeking re-election after 2028.

Later, while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested that many people have urged him to pursue a third term, adding, “In a way, it would be a fourth term because the 2020 election was totally rigged.” Trump lost that election to Joe Biden.

Despite his remarks, Trump tempered expectations by saying, “I don’t want to talk about a third term now because, no matter how you look at it, we’ve got a long time to go.”

The U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, explicitly limits a president to two elected terms, a rule established after Franklin D. Roosevelt won four consecutive elections.
