A 300-level Chemistry student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Lapai, has been tragically k+lled in his off-campus lodge during a robbery attack in the early hours of Monday.
The victim, identified as Jafar, popularly known among students as “AB,” was reportedly stabbed in the neck around 2:30 a.m. by armed robbers who invaded his residence. Sources say he was the only child of his parents.
This heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread outrage among students and members of the university community, many of whom are demanding justice under the trending slogan, #JusticeForAB.
According to students, this is not the first time such v+olent robberies have occurred in Lapai. Cases of theft, physical assault, and lodge invasions have long plagued the student population, with little to no intervention from local authorities.
“Students are robbed almost daily in their lodges. Some end up with serious inj¥ries. But nothing is ever done. Now it has cost someone his life,” a grieving student said.
Despite multiple reports and pleas for improved security, residents claim there has been no significant action from law enforcement or the university to protect off-campus students.
This marks the first time a student has been k+lled in the long-running string of robberies in the town.
As news of Jafar’s death spreads, students have begun mobilizing for peaceful protests and vigils in his memory, calling on the government, university management, and security agencies to take immediate and concrete action.
