Constantly criticized singer, R. Kelly has been banned from stepping foot in the city of Philadelphia as part of the #MuteRKelly campaign going on in the wake of the abuse allegations raised against the singer.
Council member, Helen Gym, who co-sponsored the resolution made the announcement on Twitter on Friday. She wrote, “We reject a system that silences black women and accepts black pain. We believe survivors. R. Kelly is not welcome in Philadelphia. This symbolic act of solidarity puts all sexual predators on notice“.
Recall that a docuseries, #SurvivingRKelly detailing years of R. Kelly’s abusive behavior especially with underage girls has been at the heart of discussions and the singer’s career has suffered for it in more ways than one, with Sony Music ending its 30 year contract with the singer and artistes taking down their collaborations with him.
