An up-and-coming singer has filed a lawsuit for sexual harassment against American R&B singer Jason Derulo, alleging that the singer signed her to a record deal with the ulterior motive of engaging in a sexual relationship with her.
According to Peoples Magazine, the plaintiff, Emaza Gibson, initiated a sexual harassment lawsuit against the singer in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.
Emaza Gibson, a 25-year-old aspiring musician, asserted that her professional association with Jason concluded after she rebuffed his sexual advances.
She alleged that Jason not only violated their contractual agreement but also reneged on opportunities he had previously promised.
According to Ron Zambrano, her attorney, “The threats of physical harm and unwanted sexual advances by Jason towards a young woman who is just trying to break into the industry were outrageous and illegal.”
Jason, through his representative, denied all the allegations against him. In a statement provided to People magazine, Jason’s representative stated, “These claims are entirely baseless and hurtful. I am against all forms of harassment and remain dedicated to supporting individuals in pursuit of their dreams.”
In a statement posted to his Instagram account on Friday, Derulo said, “I stand against all forms of harassment and remain committed to supporting people chasing their dreams”.
He added:, “I strive to live my life in a positively-impacting way, so I am deeply offended by these defamatory allegations.”
