Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has vowed to reward bandits with two cows for every AK47 weapon they surrender.
The governor disclosed this when he was paid a visit by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, the director-general of Department of State Security Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi and other security officers.
He revealed that he doesn’t want to give bandits money because he’s afraid that they will use it to buy more weapons.
“For every rifle submitted by a repentant bandit, there would be compensation of two cows,” he said.
Matawalle revealed that cows were chosen as compensation because the bandits are Fulani and it would help their economic standing.
Zamfara has been plagued by the activities of bandits who attack villages and kidnap people for ransom.
