    Teenager fakes own kidnap, demands N30m ransom from family

    An 18-year-old teenager in Lagos State has been arrested for faking her own kidnap and demanding a huge amount of money as ransom from her family.

    The teenager who was identified as Ujunwa Offiah was said to have conspired with her boyfriend to demand over N30 million from her family.

    The police who arrested the victim disclosed on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, that she was arrested along with another 22-year-old victim identified as Precious Chukwu who connived with them to fake Ujunwa’s kidnap.

    A police spokesman said that the ransom was later reduced to N700,000 which was used to lure them where they will be caught.

    “This is a case of conspiracy and staged kidnapping,” Lagos state commissioner of police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, said in a statement.

    According to the police Ujunwa Offiah’s boyfriend, who is an Uber driver, is still on the run, and the police have assured that they will continue to look for him until they catch him.

    “We are going after him because he conspired with one of these two ladies, Offiah, who faked her kidnap.”
