In a candid interview with Biola Bayo on her show, “Talk To B,” renowned Nollywood actor Yemi My Lover has opened up about his past relationship with gospel singer Tope Alabi. The actor shared insights into their earlier days, highlighting the efforts Alabi made to connect with him.
Yemi reminisced about the times when they would visit Alabi’s home in Oshodi, where her mother entrusted her care to him. He proudly stated,
“Tope Alabi is one of those who passed through me in the industry. We are both good to each other.”
He also emphasized his respect for professional boundaries, mentioning,
“Because I am not that rubbish artiste, that cannot be trusted with girls.”
Their relationship, however, seems to have hit a rough patch. Yemi had previously accused Tope of neglecting him after gaining fame, expressing disappointment over her lack of acknowledgment and communication. He even pointed out an instance where she ignored his birthday despite his efforts to reach out.
However, Yemi later retracted his accusations, admitting that his words were driven by affection for the singer and acknowledging that he wasn’t responsible for establishing her career. He questioned his own expectations from her, stating,
“Knowing fully well I didn’t make her, why would I be expecting anything from her?” He concluded by expressing his contentment with his life and apologized to Tope Alabi.
