A mom is still trying to come to terms with the death of her 18-month-old daughter, Zama, raped and brutalized by her 23-year-old uncle in Esikhaleni, South Africa.
The 34-year-old mother revealed that Zama had been raped the day before she died on Wednesday, last week. She said her daughter was living with her 26-year-old father at the time of her death. .
According to her, Zama’s father told her that her stepmother left her in the care of her uncle while she went to buy groceries on Tuesday. The mom revealed that her husband called her on Tuesday that the deceased has a swollen forehead and blood on her mouth and privates. .
The uncle told the family the baby had eaten fertilizer. “He told me they were going to take her to the clinic the next morning, but when they woke up she was dead,” she added.
Two days later, the police called the baby’s father and asked him to bring the uncle to the station, where they arrested him for murder and rape. He was arraigned in court on Monday.
