In a candid discussion on Toke Makinwa’s podcast, Nollywood actress Ini Edo shared her views on men’s perception of “overly successful” women in relationships.
Edo expressed that some men feel threatened by women’s strength and success, perceiving accomplished women as competition to their traditional role as the head of the household. She highlighted that certain men prefer women who are submissive and easier to control, as it aligns with their expectations of traditional gender roles.
The actress emphasized her preference for being a “queen” rather than dominating over a man, stating,
“I’m not a woman who is looking to subdue any man or ride over any man.” She stressed her desire to walk beside a man, receiving guidance and protection, rather than overpowering him, regardless of her success.
Edo acknowledged the challenge of finding men who comprehend that a woman’s success doesn’t diminish their role as the head of the home, lamenting the difficulty in establishing a balance between success and maintaining traditional relationship dynamics.
