Alex Murphy Klein never imagined that two years into her marriage, her biggest challenge would be biological. While trying to conceive with her husband Paul, she discovered her body was reacting to his DNA in a way that prevented pregnancy.
The couple, married in 2023, had expected to start a family “quickly and easily,” Alex told ITV’s This Morning. After a year without success, medical tests revealed no clear issues, and their situation was labeled unexplained infertility. Their first IVF attempt failed, and Alex felt something still wasn’t right. “I just had to put the brakes on,” she said.
At-home bl%%d tests from Fertilysis revealed that Alex had a genetic predisposition causing immunological incompatibility with Paul’s DNA. “It sounds like a crazy headline,” she said, explaining her immune system had been effectively “putting the brakes on” conception. Continuing IVF without addressing this would likely have failed.
To address the issue, the couple began LIT therapy, which involves injecting processed samples of Paul’s bl%%d into Alex to help her immune system develop tolerance. “It’s like immunotherapy,” Alex explained. She also underwent additional treatments to regulate her immune response and had completed four injections at the time of the interview.
Discovering the cause early likely saved them from repeated IVF failures. Both stressed the importance of facing infertility as a team. “It’s really important that you face it as a couple,” Paul said. Despite the challenges, they remain hopeful and share their story to encourage others to ask questions, trust their instincts, and seek answers when something feels wrong.
