Veteran journalist Jimi Disu has shared his thoughts on the challenges of activism, particularly for outspoken figures like Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman.
During a radio show on Nigeria Info FM, Disu advised that individuals engaging in activism must exercise caution when making public statements about others. He stressed the importance of financial preparedness, as legal battles can be costly and draining.
“When you are doing the kind of job you are doing, apart from common sense, you need a very good lawyer and a whole lot of cash to defend yourself,” he warned.
Highlighting the financial burden of lawsuits, he added:
“Remember, if you are a content creator, and so on and so forth, a lawsuit can finish you. Whether you win the case or not, you still have to pay a lawyer.”
Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as Verydarkman, is a self-acclaimed activist in Nigeria known for advocating for the rights of the voiceless and oppre§§ed citizens. His bold approach has garnered both admiration and controversy, making Disu’s advice particularly relevant in the evolving landscape of digital activism.
