Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has on Tuesday, criticized those trying to reduce the worth of the significant June 12, 1993, presidential election struggle to ethnic denigration.

The epochal playwright released a statement titled “Democracy Day Primer (1)”, saying that June 12 celebration should not be rubbed in ethnic garb.

Although, Soyinka disclosed that he would not be present at this year’s June 12 celebrations by choice – as a result of his training exercises to withdraw from public space, he however said the commemoration of June 12 is a closure for all who partook in the struggle for Nigeria’s Democracy.
